[jira] [Commented] (KAFKA-2581) Run all existing ducktape tests with SSL-enabled clients and brokers

Ewen Cheslack-Postava commented on KAFKA-2581:
----------------------------------------------

Can we clarify the scope of this a bit more? I'm not sure we necessarily want to be able to run everything under both SSL and plaintext modes.

Some tests are clearly useful parameterized for both. One example would be the performance tests -- knowing how SSL stacks up compared to plaintext is clearly useful. But other tests don't seem that valuable to run under both modes. For example, is there any reason to think replication_test.py would differ between the two modes?

I'd like to avoid simply doubling the entire set of tests. So maybe we could pick out the set of tests we think would be valuable to parameterize with SSL to test under both configs?
