RE: Xalan-c release that compiles with VS2005

Hello

We are also trying to use compile Xalan-c with VS2005 as well, using dev trunks (of Xerces-c aswell) from SVN.

Xerces compiles ok, but Xalan-c gets this error:

3>c:\projects\xalan-c\trunk\src\xalanc\platformsupport\XalanMessageLoader.hpp(29) : fatal error C1083: Cannot open include file: 'LocalMsgIndex.hpp': No such file or directory

Now I have read the instructions at bottom of faq:

http://xml.apache.org/xalan-c/faq.html

and here:

http://xml.apache.org/xalan-c/build_instruct.html#locale

I haven't much experience at all this localization stuff, but I don't really understand how to get past this.

I don't want any other languages, just default.

I don't see any Localization project in VS2005 sln file. Sorry if I've missed something obvious or this is naïve stupid question, but how do you sort this ???

The other fellow seems to have got past this so I assume its possible :-)

Much appreciated ...

Cheers

Dean

Hi !
When the critical mass of the found defects will be big enough, or we find especially bad misfunction, we will post XalanC1.11 release.
Probably it will be bug fixing release + some minor features ( like VS2005 support) .
Right now we don't have a concrete date for such release.
Thanks!

Thanks Dmitry.

I could download the latest source code from the development trunk and compiled using VS2005 without any error. Since this is still in development, I would like to know if there is an official release (w/ VS2005 support) in near future.

Thanks in advance,

VS2005 support is still in an experimental phase . The main reason of the different approach to the Localization project in VS2005 is support of the Express Edition , that, for some reason, comes with no nmake application with it .
If you have the full edition of VS2005 then , probably, you can get it compiled by mixing the localization approach of XalanC1.9 with the latest source of XalanC1.10

Xalan-c release that compiles with VS2005

I'm novice to this mailing list and need your help.

Since xalan-c1.10 source code doesn't get compiled with VS2005 (even after applying patch from jira-584), I'm looking for some stable revision no. that can be used to compile the source using VS2005. Can someone help me with the revision no/branch name? What's the plan for next release? Will it include support for VS2005 as well?

Thanks in advance,

There's no really policy -- it's just a matter of overhead. Doing a
release is very time-consuming, and to do a point release just for
VS2005 compatibility would be a real pain.

On the other hand, the question has been answered many times that you
need to get the latest from Subversion to make this work. To me, that
indicates user error, because people are not always willing to search
the archives for answers to their questions.

BTW, you didn't post whether or not you've been able to build now. It
would be good to know if the latest solution files actually work for
someone other than myself.

Thanks!

Dave

Thank you David.

Yes I just added these to my PATH environment variable (in XP), to find
the Xerces DLL's, and both release and debug builds from trunk svn were
successful in VS2005.

F:\projects\xerces-c\trunk\Build\Win32\VC8\Release;F:\projects\xerces-c\trunk\Build\Win32\VC8\Debug

Unfortunately, the FAQs don't really apply for the VS2005 version. You
should do two things:

1. Clean the output directories (Build\Win32\VC8\Debug, etc.)
2. Verify in the build output that the MsgCreator project is built
successfully. Without this, the message file won't be processed, and
you won't have LocalMsgIndex.hpp. Also, verify that MsgCreator was able
to run. You will need the Xerces-C DLL in your path, or in the build
output directory.

To verify, I just built Xalan-C cleanly using VS2005 Professional, using
the trunk.

I think I ever had the same problem, and follow the steps from
  http://xml.apache.org/xalan-c/build_instruct.html#locale
should get you through.
I cannot remember what exactly I did, but you can try this:

Set "AllInOneWithICU" depend on "XalanMsgLibICU", in the property of "XalanMsgLibICU", add that command line "...=en_US" in "Custom Build Step"->"General"->"Command Line".

  Good luck!
