There are some formatting and changes and test additions in this patch.

I am uncertain how commiters would like these updates to be contributed.   I have attached a single patch file with all my current updates with the intent of reducing the work involved in creating and applying these patches.

Please advise if the patch is not formatted well or if there are other issues ( mykiwi@gmail.com ).  

If people would prefer a set of more modular then we can do that also.  It would be more controlled but also significantly more work.
