[S2] Struts 2.0.2 Build
So, when I get to the assembly:assembly stage, the build fails,
complaining that it can't find XWork beta2.
I installed XWork beta2 manually, but still no joy.
Another bit of strangeness is that I can't get a clean build from my
usual checkout. It fails on the ActionTag tests. If I try from another
struts2 checkout (not adjacent to my XWork working copy), it builds
fine, up to the last mile.

I took out the xwork javadoc task in the xwork build, so we can remove

Ted,
great :) As soon as the docs are fixed (Toby & Phil are volunteering on
this issue) I'll release the final XWork 2.0 very soon!
Looking forward to see Struts2 going GA.

Struts 2.0.2 built fine, and I'm going through the Showcase. There are
a few broken examples. I'll try and fix and simple issues, but if
there's anything I can't fix right away, I'll just file a ticket
aginst 2.0.3. This build is dependant on XWork beta 3, so at least one
more Struts 2 build is a foregone conclusion :)

Ted,
I just released XWork 2.0-beta-3. All jars are available from the OS maven
repo, so I updated the struts pom.xml.
XWork 2.0 final is feasible in the next 2 weeks. Most of the open issues
regard packaging or infrastructure now.
The only blockers are related to documentation tasks.

Well, since you asked :)
I'd like to see some more Selenium tests for the example applications
that people could locally.
There's also the question of whether we could build all the JARs on a
nightly basis. Right now, we're building api and core, but there are
also eleven plugin JARs.
There are several undefined pages in the documentation, including
Namespace Annotation
ParentPackage Annotation
Pell-multipart Plugin
Plexus Plugin
Result Annotation
Results Annotation
Spring Plugin
Struts1 Plugin
(And another 50 that look like coding mistakes. (From the cwiki/ww
site, see Browse Space/Advanced/Undefined pages.))
I expect that there there are several more FAQs that we could cherry
pick from the user list.
As for coding, I'm working on WW-1522 (auto alias configs) now. I'd
say that WW-1517 (streamlined link tag) is also important, and WW-1289
(simple radio tag) sounds useful.
I've lost track of where we stand on a simple archetype (WW-1412)
based on the blank application, which includes the tutorial code. I'm
also not sure where we are on generating the TLD (WW-1392).
And, of course, there's the notion of actually finishing that-there
new API (WW-1404, WW-1402).

OK, I had to create, or recreate, a bunch of "site" directories to get
the assemby:assembly step to complete, but complete it did.
So, given a X2B3, we could take another pass at a Struts 2.0.2 this weekend.
If X2B3 is joyful, might it be feasible to roll X2 final in another two weeks?
That way we might be able to have a Struts 2.0.3 by the 17th, which
could even be a GA candidate.

Ted,
I'd like to roll xwork-2.0-beta-3 later today which includes lots of fixes
to the assembly goals. Also some of the other open issues have been
resolved.
The javadoc jars are build correctly now with ant/ivy and maven build.
I'll upload the deps to the OS repo as soon as the release is out.

Ted,
I added the xwork-2.0-beta-2 (bin+sources) jars and pom to the
OpenSymphony maven repo yesterday. They should be on ibiblio with the next
sync.
The xwork beta-2 distribution can be downloaded from java.net:
https://xwork.dev.java.net/servlets/ProjectDocumentList?folderID=6088
Regarding the javadoc bundle, there is a strange problem.
Have a look at http://jira.opensymphony.com/browse/XW-441 for details.
I'll work on the above issues during the day, hopefully they are resolved
within the next couple of hours. The biggest isue for me is XW-441. I
think I need some help there to verify this is not an OS X Intel bug.

I flushed my m2 repository and got the trunk to build. :)
Until I switched back over to the XWork2-beta-2. :(
At the assembly:assembly stage, it's looking fo rthe
xwork-2.0-beta-2-javadoc.jar, but that JAR is not in the repository,
nor is it in the XWork 2 beta2 ALL distribution. I expect the
-sources.jar would also do, since that's what we were using with the
snapshot.
I could try checking out the tag and building it myself, but we really
should get it up in the repository so other people could assemble this
too.
Also, I've lost rack of where I downloaded the XWork distribution. The
link on the wiki
* http://wiki.opensymphony.com/display/XW/XWork2
points to the XWork 1 downloads. I found the right place the other
day, but now I've lost it again.
I'll check in the update that changedsthe dependency to x2b2, in case
someone else wants to try this and confirm that it's just not me
again. :)

I'm assuming the first command should be
mvn install site -P all,pre-assembly
What is the pre-assembly profile? I can't find it in the parent pom or
in the assembly pom?

Hmmm, if we might have a memory link during tests, then I'd want to be
sure that we don't have a leak during production as well. I'll setup
an integration test suite that we can run against the showcase
and/mailreader in a loop, and try to let it run overnight.
In the meantime, could someone else try running
$ mvn install -P all,pre-assembly
$ cd assembly
$ mvn assembly:assembly
so we confirm that it's a systemic build error, and not an issue with my system.

I noticed that once or twice, I got an out of memory exception while
running the tests. Somewhere in all the Dispatcher and configuration
refactoring, we might have overlooked somewhere that is leaking memory
on the tests. This only happened to me when I tried to enable the xwork
and plugin profiles. When building core directly, it didn't have any
problems. I had this exception problem during the initial configuration
redesign of xwork2, but some cleanup in tearDown() and new objects in
setUp() fixed it.
