while extending Maven scm urls to make sure that they contain path in repo would not be that complex (and would ne require any change in Maven core))

As a workaround I have to reconfigure the scm section (see https://github.com/mfriedenhagen/multi-module-sample/blob/multi-site-complex/core/pom.xml) in the modules like this:
