Applied the patch to trunk and to the 0.7 branch.
(There was a failed hunk, which I discarded - it was not related to the $(...) vs `...` issue)

There are errors with
+ if [ -f "$DEFAULT_HOME/$NEW_USER" ]; then
+ echo export JAVA_HOME=$JAVA_HOME >> $DEFAULT_HOME/$NEW_USER

It should be
+ if [ -d "$DEFAULT_HOME/$NEW_USER/" ]; then
+ echo export JAVA_HOME=$JAVA_HOME >> $DEFAULT_HOME/$NEW_USER/.bashrc
+ fi
The error doesn't really show because JAVA_HOME is added to /etc/profile anyway.
Other than that, we can't use [ -f $DEFAULT_HOME/$NEW_USER/.bashrc ] because the .bashrc
file doesn't exist for $NEW_USER (apparently /etc/skel isn't copied for the new user)
I only checked trunk, I didn't test 0.7.1. To be checked.

Replaced $(...) by `...` to avoid jclouds mangling.
Also increased the curl --connect-timeout value from to 60 because I was hitting the 10 second limit in my low-end (virtualbox) environment.
