Out of memory -Tomcat4.x

Hi.,
   I'm getting out of memory Error.
How do i know the current jvm memory?
I know the hardware memory details?
Please advise me which one is causing this error and how do i know the current settings?

Put this in catalina.sh:

CATALINA_OPTS="$CATALINA_OPTS -Xmx512M";
