the work-around to this problem for those that want to see banners is to do the following renames:

(in petstoreWeb/web/images)
mv banner_birds.gif banner_BIRDS.gif
mv banner_cats.gif banner_CATS.gif
mv banner_dogs.gif banner_DOGS.gif
mv banner_fish.gif banner_FISH.gif
mv banner_reptiles.gif banner_REPTILES.gif
