[status] Where are we?

Hi,

I was just wondering how many of us are left out there. I just
recently had to kick off some work on another project and have
not had time to work on code for the past week although I have
been reading heavily. I just want to get an idea of what people
are working on and how we are doing over all. Frankly I'm worried
that participation has declined with the old LDAPd group now that
we have made the move to the incubator here at Apache.

<my-status>
Myself I have resolved several issues I had with the specifications
after perhaps several hundreds of pages of dry ITU and IETF docs.
</my-status>

<future>
Now I'm trying to get back in the groove with continuing the move
of the backend code over to the Eve area and fixing it to be POJO
based. This will take some time but in the meantime I'll try to
document as much as possible so we can get more folks involved.
</future>

Now is a good time to put some of our new years resolutions regarding
this project out there so we can figure out how we are to work together
to build this thing going forward. Perhaps we can have people give
the list a ping and give some idea of what they're up to and where they
want to go.

Alex

Hi all,

For the last few weeks I have been neck deep in looking at ASN1
encoding. Right now we are using IBM's ber library for
encoding/decoding, which is going to have to change long term. So I
have been reading up on the protocol and seeing what it will take to
write our own ASN1 encoder/decoder, not only in Java, but also C. This
is a key step for the clients, especially for embedding.

I have also been slowing moving forward on the LDAP test/performance
tool. Again, this tool will provide protocol testing and performance
metrics using the line protocol talking to any LDAP server.

Hi Alex:

Quick update on my own status ... busy getting Merlin 3.2 out the door
along with the repo, util and meta packages - and the roadmap stuff
related to 3.3, 3.4 etc.

I promised to get stuck into the Directory docs but I haven't got much
done :-( But the intent is still there.

Just for reference - what are the open issues that need to be addressed
to exit incubator? Perhaps it would be a good idea to focus out
attention on clearing these and getting the project properly established
within Apache? What do other think?

Cheers, Steve.

Hi all,

First of all, happy new year to everybody and all my best wishes.

As far as the security stuff is concerned, I went through a lot of
experimentation lately, and after a nice 3 weeks break (that was good),
I have started a major refactoring/reorganization. The web site is in
place and I have started rewriting the code base. I want to take my time
to do things properly, with the necessary docs and tests.

Cheers,
Vincent

I've been assigned a money making project at work, so I am no longer
full-time on our LDAP product. I am having to divide my spare time between
Apache development and work on the company LDAP product. Thus, I have had
very limited availibility recently, and I don't see that changing much in
the near future.

I have been looking at the ASN.1 protocol as well, specifically, BER
encoding and decoding. I reiterate my concerns about duplicating effort, as
I understand Jeff is working on this as well.

The ASN.1 stuff fits right up my alley, since it is not a critical path ( we
are replacing an existing sub-system ), and I can work it into my busy
schedule. I'll be glad to take on another task though.
