Is transcode method thread safe?

I'm running on Win32 building with VC6 and my app is crashing when multiple threads call transcode.  I've seen a lot of posts on the list about various threading issues but nothing specific to transcode.  Is there an issue with the single transcoding service being utilized within multiple threads?

My app is a java app utilizing xerces from deep within a JNI interface so my issue is very difficult to debug.  Any help is greatly appreciated.
