Re: [DISCUSS] Give The “Contributor of The Month” Award a Try

With code contributions, do you mean : number of commits or lines changed? If it's lines changed : +1, if it's number of commits: +/-0

Subject: [DISCUSS] Give The “Contributor of The Month” Award a Try

As January ends, I think maybe we can give the “Contributor of The Month”
award a try. Here is my proposal for the measure of the title.

Given that it is our first try of this mechanism, I suggest only take two
indicators into account, which is the code contribution on GitHub( which
will be measured as the amount of code ), and the activity on mail list(which
will be measured as the frequency of sending emails, reply email included).
As for the specific equation, I think we can first standardize the value of
two indicators, then we add the standardized score(Z-score)together and
rank it up. So, the equation will be “*S=Z(amount of code)+Z(frequency of
sending email)”*

Finally, I suggest that we take the top three as the “Contributor of The
Month”. What do you guys think?

Yes, I couldn't agree more. Just listing some numbers does miss the
contributions of many contributors who are also working hard. So, in the
meantime, we should also consider expressing appreciation to all
contributors who have contributed monthly, in a more formal way maybe, so
that they can feel themselves being recognized.

We can only vote the committer once, but as monthly reward we need to
find a way to keep encouraging the contributors.

You could just recognise contributors by voting them in as committers

I think it could be more important to recognize the contribution
instead of just making a list with numbers.
We may say personal thanks to those who provide great help to
community with code or non-code contribution.
