[Bug 6099] New: MSGID_DOLLARS in 20_head_tests.cf not accounting for
Windows [Live] Mail
https://issues.apache.org/SpamAssassin/show_bug.cgi?id=6099
Summary: MSGID_DOLLARS in 20_head_tests.cf not accounting for
Windows [Live] Mail
Product: Spamassassin
Version: unspecified
Platform: Other
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P4
Component: Rules
AssignedTo: dev@spamassassin.apache.org
ReportedBy: telackey@redbudcomputer.com
I want to preface this by saying that I have not attempted to reproduce and
confirm this in a controlled test.
In 20_head_tests.cf (downloaded 2009-04-17 by sa-update) I see that
MSGID_DOLLARS is testing for the presence of '$' signs in the message ID of
non-Microsoft CRM or Outlook based mailers.
I think it should probably be including the newer "Microsoft Windows Mail" and
"Microsoft Windows Live Mail" products as well. I have not confirmed by
installing Windows Mail myself to examine its X-Mailer value, but I believe it
is in the form "Microsoft Windows Mail X.xxxxx" and Live Mail's is "Microsoft
Windows Live Mail XX.xxxxx". The key point as far as the rule goes is that I
don't believe either of them include the word "Outlook" in their X-Mailer
header.
As a practical matter, the mail I have hit by this rule is primarily SPAM, but
I think its application may nonetheless be erroneous, and could result in false
positives.
