I posted a patch to add a test case for this issue last Friday--please see the
"derby-388_test.patch" attachment in the DERBY-388 entry. It looks like Jira
failed to send a corresponding email to the list.
Could a committer apply the posted patch to the main trunk and, if possible, to
10.1? Both branches received the fix for this problem, so I think it'd be
appropriate to include the new test case in both branches, as well.

I have submitted this change to trunk. Will merge into 10.1 after the
release is done.
