Status of 1st NetBeans code donation to Apache

Hi all,

Oracle legal has worked through the Apache documents and has approved them.
It's a big step -- we've now (1) completed the code audit with Oracle's
Java team and (2) completed the Apache documentation approval with the
Oracle legal team. The final step is that the Apache documents need to be
signed by Oracle, which is what's happening now and should be done soon.

We've learned a lot from the process involved in the 1st code donation and
believe that the two subsequent code donations will go faster, since we've
been through the whole process -- almost -- once now completely.

Anyone from a large corporation will tell you that all the 'due diligence'
that we've been going through in the transfer of code from Oracle to Apache
is always like this, with multiple hurdles to cross, and with thoroughness
being the main driver.

Though the focus of the 1st code donation has been to release together with
JDK 9, which is set to be released a month from now, I don't think that's a
realistic target anymore, given all the processes we'll need to go through
in the Apache incubator prior to the Apache incubator release. However, we
should certainly try and if, as seems likely, we can't release together
with JDK 9, we should be able to do so not long after.
