Per Ted: It looks like Download and Install does not work when the GEP is launched within eclipse. The error message says either file not found or feature already installed. I think it is the latter. If I install GEP via the updatesite.zip file, Download and Install works.

One scenario that must work is the download of the Geronimo v2.0 server with the GEP 2.1.x, as well as the download of the Geronimo v2.1 server with the GEP 2.1.x

Yeah, there were a few things to fix.
A key point here is that InstallableRuntime.getFeatureVersion is the feature version, as the method suggests. You have to look elsewhere to get the server version. I started with InstallableRuntime.getPath, which is about the only other choice.
To use this version with other runtimes, they must be mentioned in various places.
