My Tomcat does not Show the comand prompt

I intalled Tomcat 4.0. however whenever I start it the comand prompt disapears though I can still run Example servlets and JSPs. Please Help me on the proper Instalation procedures so that the comand prompt can not Disapear as it is discouraging me.

David,

Open a command prompt to the CATALINA_HOME directory,
then type in startup. It should start Tomcat and the
DOS prompt window should stay open.

By the way, you didn't say if Tomcat run or not. If
it doesn't run, that's the reason why the DOS windows
did not stay open. If that's the case, go to the log
file to find out what's wrong.

Hope this helps.

I don't know how you're starting tomcat..
but if you were using startup.bat (or startup.sh), likely it will
'disappear' after you start it.

If typing http://localhost:8080 or whereever you configured tomcat to be
works, then it's up.
If you want to actually SEE the tomcat output, I suggest you start
tomcat with

%CATALINA_HOME%/bin/ > catalina.bat run
or
%CATALINA_HOME%/bin/ > catalina.sh run
