Seeking Feedback on WAYANG-55 and Future Contributions

Hello Wayang developers,

I hope you are doing well.

I am following up on WAYANG-55 and PR #719, which implements a JDBC driver
for Apache Wayang:

https://github.com/apache/wayang/pull/719

This work was originally proposed as part of a GSoC project idea, and I
have continued developing it independently. The PR includes:

   - JDBC driver support for Apache Wayang
   - SQL execution through the Wayang SQL API
   - DatabaseMetaData support, including metadata discovery methods
   - Unit and integration tests (all currently passing)

In addition, I submitted a separate documentation PR (#722) describing the
JDBC driver, its architecture, usage, and examples.

I would greatly appreciate feedback on whether this contribution aligns
with the current direction and roadmap of Apache Wayang. In particular, I
would like to understand:

   - Whether the JDBC driver is still considered a valuable addition to the
   project.
   - Whether the current implementation approach is appropriate or should
   be revised.
   - Whether the contribution should be split into smaller PRs to make
   review easier.
   - Whether there are any specific concerns that need to be addressed
   before further review.

I am very interested in continuing to contribute to Apache Wayang beyond
this work. If the project currently has higher-priority areas that need
attention, I would be grateful for guidance on where contributors can help.
I would be happy to work on open issues, features, testing, documentation,
or other tasks that are valuable to the project.

Thank you for your time and for maintaining Apache Wayang. I look forward
to your feedback and hope to continue contributing to the project.

Best regards,

Harshit Singh

That’s great Harshit.

@Makarand: can you sync with Harshit? This will avoid duplicating efforts

Hi Zoi,

Thank you for your response.

I would be happy to collaborate with Kaustubh and Makarand on the JDBC
driver effort and contribute to any additional tasks that could extend the
scope of the project.

For context, this JDBC driver was originally the project I proposed for
GSoC. During the application period I focused primarily on the
implementation and pull request. I was not yet familiar with the Apache
mailing-list workflow, so I did not engage much with mentors and community
discussions at that time.

Since then, I have been learning more about the Apache contribution process
and would like to continue contributing to Wayang in a more active and
collaborative manner.

I will be glad to help with any JDBC-related tasks, testing, documentation,
or other areas where contributors are currently needed.

Thank you again for the guidance.

Best regards,
Harshit Singh

Hi Harshit,

thank you very much for your contribution and your interest.
We are currently working on the JDBC driver as part of the GSoC program. Makarand is working with Kaustubh on this project.
Feel free to get in touch and maybe get some tasks which could extend the scope of defined scope.

@Kaustubh, Makarand: What do you think? Is there something that you wouldn't have time to implement and that Harshit could contribute?

If not, you could work on another mini project.

Best
