Search and Query with struts

Question about client requirements to search and list certain data (based on
some criterias) and display results on a web page.

I'm trying to implement this funtionality on an large J2EE aplication, I
read 'Value List Handler' on 'Core J2EE Patterns' book, this implements with
a collection of value objects generated on EJB tier (filled with DAO) and
accessed from the client (another option is to implement the pattern
enterely on the client side). This solution avoids the use of ejbFind()
methods that are heavy and expensive on network traffic.

Another solution could be the use of RowSet Collection from Sun (maybe
cached row set ) 

Anyone has experience whith this kind of requirements, and wants to share,
it will be highly appreciated.
