Version of Java required

Define old.  JSE 5 is old?  Have we agreed to permit anything newer?  I can
install newer on the build server, but stuck with what we agreed was the
level.

no - please stick to the agreed level

(gentoo makes working with anything other than the latest and greatest
(1.6.x ATM) difficult. also sun's 1.5 or earlier don't really work
with the pure 64bit system i'm running.)
