i think it's a very good idea.  this has been occasionally discussed and is
planned to be part of the velocity-tools project.  this is one of several
things i hope to get moving once i get a 1.0 release out the door.  but please
feel free to get the ball rolling in the wiki if you feel motivated!  Ted has
already contributed a few things
(http://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=16755) and i have a few
that i plan to contribute.
