high number of fields

Hi,

I have an algorithm that would benefit from using a lot of fields, more
precisely about 5000 fields. It does sound like a lot to me and I'd like to
know if it's a good idea going that road or if I should rethink about my
algorithm.

Thanks in advance,
Sebastien

Well, I found a better way to do what I had to do. Still, what's supposed to
be considered to be a high number of fields? tens, hundreds, thousands ?
How's the performance supposed to be affected by the number of fields? Is it
linear?

Could you possibly supply some use cases for your data?

That way we might be able to better advise you on this matter.
