   ### Bug description

   The bug is as follows:
   1. Click Settings - Info
   2. It redirects to the welcome page (https://example.com/superset/welcome/).

If use an account with the admin role, it will be redirected to https://example.com/user_info/ normally.
   alpha\gamma does`t work

If I enter https://example.com/users/userinfo/ in the Chrome browser, it will redirect to an old user info page.

   Hi @pchukwuemeka424,

I'm interested in contributing a follow-up to improve backward compatibility for existing custom roles affected by the new UserInfo permission.

I noticed the review discussion about custom roles potentially losing access to Settings → Info after an upgrade. I'd like to investigate the role-sync behavior and add regression tests while ensuring that access to user-management views remains restricted.

Would this be a useful follow-up contribution, or would you prefer a different approach?

   Thank you!

   <!-- Answer -->
Hi @sixly! I'm [Dosu](https://go.dosu.dev/dosubot) and I'm helping the Apache Superset team.

This is a **permissions issue** with the `UserInfoView`. The `/user_info/` route uses `class_permission_name = "user"` and `@permission_name("read")` [[1]](https://github.com/apache/superset/blob/829e4d92d91ceae4b43b1ed3b063ffe45377799c/superset/views/user_info.py#L26-L34), which means accessing it requires the `can_read on user` permission.

In the security manager, `"User"` is explicitly listed in `ADMIN_ONLY_VIEW_MENUS` [[2]](https://github.com/apache/superset/blob/829e4d92d91ceae4b43b1ed3b063ffe45377799c/superset/security/manager.py#L265-L290), making `can_read on user` an **Admin-only permission**. When a non-Admin user (Alpha/Gamma) clicks Settings → Info, they lack the required permission and get redirected to `/superset/welcome/`.

Meanwhile, the Settings menu unconditionally shows the "Info" link for all logged-in users — `user_info_url` is set to `"/user_info/"` unless `MENU_HIDE_USER_INFO` is enabled [[3]](https://github.com/apache/superset/blob/829e4d92d91ceae4b43b1ed3b063ffe45377799c/superset/views/base.py#L285-L287), and the frontend renders it whenever `navbarRight.user_info_url` is truthy [[4]](https://github.com/apache/superset/blob/829e4d92d91ceae4b43b1ed3b063ffe45377799c/superset-frontend/src/features/home/RightMenu.tsx#L551-L556).

**The root cause** is that `class_permission_name = "user"` ties `UserInfoView` to the `User` view-menu, which is Admin-only. To fix this properly, `UserInfoView` would need its own distinct permission name granted to Alpha/Gamma roles (similar to how `ACCESSIBLE_PERMS` already includes `can_userinfo` for the old FAB route) [[5]](https://github.com/apache/superset/blob/829e4d92d91ceae4b43b1ed3b063ffe45377799c/superset/security/manager.py#L344).

As a **workaround**, you can manually grant the `can_read on user` permission to your Alpha/Gamma roles via Settings → Security, though that has wider implications since it also grants read access to general user management views.

This looks like a genuine bug — the "Info" link should either work for all roles or be hidden for those who don't have access.

Happy to work on this if the maintainers are open to it - from Dosu's diagnosis, would the preferred fix be giving UserInfoView its own permission name (option in the analysis above), or is there a different approach you'd prefer for RBAC-sensitive code like this?

From a user's perspective, every user should have the default privilege to view their own info, rather than the admin privilege (this was the setting in version 5.0.0).
If I can see it, then I should be able to access it.
I'm not a developer, but I hope the Superset team can fix this.

I'll take this one — the Settings → Info link requires `can_read on user`/`User`, which is Admin-only, so Alpha/Gamma get bounced to welcome.

Fix: give `UserInfoView` its own `can_userinfo on UserInfo` permission (already covered by `ACCESSIBLE_PERMS`) so stock Gamma/Alpha can open their own profile after role sync.
