[VOTE] Release Apache Continuum 1.3.0 as Milestone 1

On the Continuum 1.3 trunk, we have two new features completed --
transient state so that Continuum doesn't repeatedly send emails if
the scm system is down, and the migration to Struts 2 as the
underlying web framework. I'd like to release 1.3.0 as Milestone 1 to
get these new features into users' hands.

The binaries, sources, checksums, signatures, docs and staging repo
can be found here:
 http://people.apache.org/builds/continuum/1.3.0

The release notes are available in the staged site:
 http://people.apache.org/builds/continuum/1.3.0/docs/release-notes.html

(I made a mistake in updating the release notes to say 'Milestone 1',
since we should determine the classifier during the vote. For example
it's possible that we might decide this is only an Alpha instead of a
Milestone. I've fixed that on trunk for next time.)

Test results and votes are welcome from everyone in the community.
There are too many combinations of operating systems, scm repositories
and project types for any one person to test, so please try it out in
your environment and let us know what you find-- good or bad.

Once you've had a chance to review it, please vote

[ ] +1 Release it as Milestone 1!
[ ] +/- 0
[ ] -1 It should not be released as Milestone 1 because...

The vote will be open for at least 72 hours. Assuming all goes well
I'll tally the vote and finish up on Friday. However, let me know if
you need more time.

Thanks,

We have this problem every new version.

Perhaps it's time we veto commits that change the database without
updating the migration tool at the same time?

Existing users should probably stay on 1.2 until 1.3 goes GA... and I
agree we need a database migration tool prior to a 1.3 GA.

I still don't see why the lack of a migration tool has to hold up a
milestone, but obviously that's the consensus, so I'll cancel this one
and remove the binaries.

Same comments for me and I think it will be the same for actual users.

Hi,
Sorry for late response.
My main concern is to have a database migration tool.
Because here I cannot start a 1.3 with a 1.2 database (I didn't test
the current tool maybe it can help).

I wasn't planning to cancel it, (but I also have a "refuses to send
email" note to check out further. So if you've tested it and are
content with it being labeled Milestone 1, please vote. :) I am
curious if my comment about the problems caused the lack of response,
or if there's something else going on... -Wendy

Does this mean you're canceling the vote?

IMO, certainly prefer not, but not a blocker, especially if
documented. I expect them to be designated as pre-release and not the
main download on the web site anyway.

I've found a couple of problems -- some validation error messages have
gone missing, and you can't delete users. The latter will probably
have to be fixed in Redback.

Thoughts on whether that's a big enough problem to prevent releasing
this as a Milestone?

I have an idea of what I expect in Alpha and Beta software, but I'm
still forming an opinion on Milestones. Do we allow minor regressions
in Milestones?
