Server hardware suggestions?

  Does anyone have any suggestions for hardware to get the best (or at least 
really good) performance from a subversion server?

   We will be connecting to the server via svn+ssh on a local network (most of 
the time).

   We are using fsfs repositories.

   We plan to do per commit incremental backups with regular full backups and 
hot copies.

   We currently have about 200MB in our svn repositories and just over 4GB in 
ClearCase (which I would like to migrate some day). Since we want room for new 
projects and our repositories will only grow in size, I was thinking of 
specifying at least 200GB of disk space.

   We will most likely be using FC3 linux.

   I was originally offered a FC3 system running under VMware with about 384MB 
RAM with plenty of disk space NFS mounted from an external raid.

   I am concerned, however, that this will be slow for our users.

   So, I have requested dedicated hardware for our server.  Two options that I 
was given so far are:

3.2GHz dual Xeon
1GB RAM
4 SATA 120GB raided for 200GB usable space
2 GigE NIC's

   or

3.0GHz Xeon
1GB RAM
2 SATA 200GB mirrored
2 GigE NIC's

   What aspects of the hardware configuration are the most important?
   Will a dual processor make much difference?
   Would the aforementioned VM server be reasonable?

If the data is of any importance buisness-wise, I would use the second 
(mirrored) set-up.  You can never have too much fault tolerance.  And 
you don't need that proc power unless the box is going to be doing 
something else.

My company is working towards moving all our projects into SVN for 
staight configuration managment of Word files.  We should have some GB's 
in the next few months once a few new projects get up to speed, but have 
just over 1 GB in CM right now.  I have them in fsfs repos and do a 
hot-copy every night to a HD in another box, and use svn+ssh over LAN..

Our server specs:

2.6 P4-ht
1GB RAM
2 SATA 250mb (mirror)
2 PATA 120mb (mirror)
PATA 20mb (OS)
Red Hat 9.0
GB Lan (only using 100 so far)

This box also does our E-mail, Serves our web-page and web-mail, and is 
a general file server in addition to SVN, and idles most of the time.
