   Appreciate the thorough writeup and the real Impala validation. 
   
   Since this is explicitly a PoC for design feedback and not for merge, I'm not blocking on anything. That said, we'll want the conflict cleared so reviewers can actually check it out and click through the UI changes. The scoping (off-by-default flag, Postgres+Impala only, no per-user zone) all seems sane to me. 
   
   Will hold off on a deeper design opinion until it's rebased and I can run it locally.
