anyone going to apacheCon?
mike and I were thinking of attending apacheCon. I'm not sure if it's
too late to submit a proposal, but I sent an email to the planning
address. if it's not too late, I may write up a quick proposal for 2
talks.

Well, that would solve the problem, but that would mean adding a thread
group for each "user" just so I can view each thread's results separately.
Would get painful with lot's of threads.
The interesting thing is that it seems to solve my threadsafe caching
problem. Each thread group appears to get it's own cache object.
If I could get the same results (have each thread treated automatically as a
thread group) without having to do it manually, that would be cool.

You can have multiple thread groups, if that's what you mean.

Modify the Results Tree so that each thread gets it's own branch in the
tree? So that instead of
Root
/
/
/
/
etc...
you'd have something like
Thread 1
/
/
Thread 2
/
/
Don't know anything about the tree control, but this would sure help
debugging threading-type problems and would just seem to make it easier to
parse, visually.

Re: Need Java help for HTTPSampler
Posted by joelsherriff <jo...@comcast.net>.
Making progress - it's been working except that HTTPSampleResult.java has a
304 (Not Modified) status as being a redirection code (that's the category
the spec defines it to be in), but since there's no Location: header field
in a 304, it generates a null pointer exception when it tries to redirect.
So, fixed that...but now I see that where I have instantiated the Cache
object (inside of HTTPSampler) isn't threadsafe. 1 thread, multiple loops
works fine, but multiple threads is sharing the cache...not good. Any
suggestions as to how to threadsafe this object? Not looking to synchronize
access to it, but to create a different object for each thread.

I agree, making it flexible is important. I've got it roughly implemented,
just need to figure out how to plug it in. It's really very simple, just
mucks with the Last-Modified and If-Modified-Since header fields. I figure
once I get it working, then making it so it's configurable will be the next
step. I'm so OOP-impaired though, I can't figure out where in the hierarchy
to create it. Any thoughts are appreciated.

I think thad was thinking about implementing an image cache several
months back, but now he is too busy.
the tricky part is how to make the image cache so it is flexible. I
probably should be a config element, so that users can add it to a
test plan or to a specific thread group. I'm sure sebastian and mike
will other suggestions on how to handle an image cache.

Need Java help for HTTPSampler
Posted by joelsherriff <jo...@comcast.net>.
I want to add an object (in essence, a linked list object, but not a Java
List, which I've never used) that will be per-thread but will remain in
existence for all requests within the test plan. It's purpose is to
simulate an "image/" cache. I haven't yet wandered outside of
HTTPSampler.java yet so I'm asking for directions. Any recommendations as
to where to create it and how to declare it? I've hacked on Java quite a
bit, but I'm a far cry from a guru on it or OOP.
