   Sorry I've put this effort on hold. 
   
   On the one hand I don't have an abundance of time at the moment, and as I'm not committed to open source full time, I can only use my spare time.
   
   On the other hand, this is a lot more work than I thought it would be.
   1. we need to refactor the statistics code to make it easier for users to define plugins to implement statistical records
   2. we need to ensure read/write compatibility with the C++/java version
   
   So I'd like to close this pr for now, but if anyone else is interested in completing this piece of work, or breaking it down into more detailed topics, I'd be happy to work on parts of it.
