I tried to with winxp, jdk1.6.03 with your path, no error here.
Could you try: mvn clean site -U to update to the latest javadoc plugin
and send use the log file: mvn clean site -X -e > log.log

Thanks for your support; my issue does indeed look similar to the known bug (interestingly, a slash/backslash sequence doesn't cause problems in some environments).
Enclosed you find the requested files. JDK is located at C:\Java\jdk1.6.0_03 (referenced in JAVA_HOME).

Please run #mvn javadoc:javadoc -Ddebug=true (or #mvn site -Ddebug=true ) and send us files from the apidocs dir (javadoc.bat, options, packages)

First of all, thanks for the quick turn around time. Second: From what I have seen so far, Maven is a phantastic tool - keep going!
I ran mvn clean site -U, then mvn clean site -X -e > log.log (and I manually deleted the data folder to start with a new db for every run): Same effect (see enclosed log.log). I also tried with a path without spaces (c:\Java\HH): Same effect (see enclosed log2.log)

I downloaded the examples and ran 'mvn site:site' in the ch12 directory. This worked fine for me on Windows XP using Java 1.6.0_05. It has something to do with the Javadoc Plugin.

I am able to reproduce it by setting your CLASSPATH entry in my shell.
Removing %JAVAHOME% from CLASSPATH, this issue goes away.
