Equally pointless. Wiki spammers have long moved past
the days of using a single IP address. Yay cloud,
yay China.

And banning spammers' IP's?

ok, that's the sort of thing a project admin can do thanks.

Not so easy, first off, the moin moin wiki farm we uses currently has a set
of users
per project wiki, not global, so banning a user from your wiki does not ban
them
from any other - this also means the wiki user/spammer has to sign up for
each
wiki. Also, banning a 'user' just bans the username, there is nothing to
stop them
creating another username and continuing on with their spam enjoyment.

wikis.

maybe to your wiki, be we have far more projects using the moin wiki than
just yours,
and they all get targeted at one stage or another.

Banning a wiki user is at infra level, so that part yes we need to do,
personally I do
not think it will make a difference, as they will just become someone else.

If all wikis remain open, this will continue on and their initial goal of
getting links indexed
by goo-gle et al will have succeeded. Banning usernames is a fruitless
exercise.

Projects can have and are welcome to have restricted wikis limited to a set
of users and controlled
by project admins - I'll happily set up any moin wiki this way if any ask.

That said, 'thatisacat' account now disabled.

Hi Gav...

I've cleaned the wiki already, but I don't want the spammer to do this
again, to this or another project.

This happens every six months or so, so it's not a big issue for
"open" wikis.

I don't know how to ban a wiki user, so that's why I'm asking for
infra help.

How do I as a JDO admin ban a user?

Thanks,

Craig
