[jira] [Commented] (INFRA-8599) create a private copy of Maven Central repository at ASF

Andrew Bayer commented on INFRA-8599:
-------------------------------------

Hey Hervé - so we're trying to figure out how to actually make this feasible. Putting 1.6tb (and growing) on disk in EC2 just isn't reasonable cost-wise, but we may be able to do something like s3fs - so not great performance and mounted as read-only to be safe, but only having to pay for storing in s3, not storing on disk as well. Would that work for you? What kind of operations are you actually looking to do on the data?

> the Maven PMC has an external copy at ibilbio for a long time: see http://maven.apache.org/repository/index.html
> We would like to have a copy at ASF: the intent is not to serve for external users, but use the copy for internal use like analysis of content
> Actual size is 1.5TB: see http://search.maven.org/#stats for latest info
> The copy will have to be accessible read-only from a shell (people.a.o?) at least for the PMC, ideally for the whole ASF.
