What do Chukwa, Droids, Hama, Hise, Lucene.Net have in common?

None of them has a useful description on this page:

  http://incubator.apache.org/projects/

Podling mentors, have at it, please! People (even ones not me) really
do look at this page and wonder what the next big thing at the ASF will be.

Good idea, but it would still be useful to have a summary csv or XML
file containing details of ALL podlings, past and present.

The Incubator needs to keep track of graduated podlings too.

Perhaps copy, rather than move, so Incubator still has the data it needs.

Hmmm, if we're going to build something, why not build it right and
ensure podlings have DOAP files before they graduate to boot?

http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/incubator/public/trunk/projects/$podling.doap
  (or some such)

WDYT?

We should be able to generate plenty of stuff on the incubator site from
normal DOAP with maybe(?) one more extension; and then when projects
graduate they just move the DOAP to projects.a.o

I don't think that's a big problem with the description because it
should rarely change.

The description is not really status information and should not change
often; also I don't think it would be possible to propagate it to all
the places that need it.

Most of the status information is held in the podling status pages
[1]; in theory the information therein could be used to create the
Incubated (sic) Projects page [2] and the RHS Projects menu [3].

Failing that, it would be nice to be able to maintain [2] and [3] from
a single file that listed all Incubator projects in an easy-to-use
format.
i.e. rather than update [2], one could update an alphabetical list of
projects containing the basic status fields.

In fact the project summary would be useful anyway, so perhaps one
could start with it, and then work out how to maintain it from the
podling status pages.

S.
P.S. Anyone fancy creating an index podling?!

In the olden days there was a single status.txt file in the root of
the podlings svn, i quite liked that as it did make it easy to keep
things in sync. Could we do something like that again, perhaps using
xml or doap to capture everything we need?

Updated Droids description to match the other ones. The description
needs to be reworked to follow the trademark rules.

It would be nice to have one canonical location for some of the
information that needs to be updated. It seems that podlings have
several different locations that need to be updated when one thing changes.

Should also match the "Description" on the podling status page (e.g.
http://incubator.apache.org/projects/droids.html) and the summary
description on the website (e.g. http://incubator.apache.org/droids/)

Remember that trademarks must be used as adjectives, not nouns [1]

Thanks for bumping this issue. It is so important to
encourage potential contributors to find projects
to get involved with, and so that the Board/IPMC/ASF
knows what these projects are about.

The podlings themselves should be editing this page.
All should develop and fine-tune their own concise description,
and use it here and as the preface to their Board report.

While doing it, please ensure that the list of Mentors is
up-to-date.
