[users@httpd] .htaccess problem during Apache Upgrade

Hi All: 

I am upgrade from 1.3 to 2.0. Installed mod_auth_dbm (since that was used in previous version). 
Everything works fine but I cannot use the old .htaccess password file. I can create a new .htaccess file
but when I use the old one I get "DBM user dlaz not found:" (even though the userid and password are OK). 

Any idea whats up?
