[jira] [Created] (INFRA-5275) Move (dist)/xml/xalan* - Prepare Project XML Retire

Steven J. Hathaway created INFRA-5275:
-----------------------------------------

             Summary: Move (dist)/xml/xalan* - Prepare Project XML Retire
                 Key: INFRA-5275
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/INFRA-5275
             Project: Infrastructure
          Issue Type: Task
      Security Level: public (Regular issues)
          Components: Dists, Mirrors
            Reporter: Steven J. Hathaway

Henk,

I will post this message to Jira INFRA for your tracking.

Information you have provided on behalf of INFRA has helped
us with the planning for our website links.

The links in our website pages are now compatible with a
move. If you could do some XML Project (dist) cleanup
before the move, it would be appreciated.

1.  (dist)/xml/xalan-c/HEADER.html

This file is set with permissions (644). This file notifies
users that the Apache XML/Xalan has moved to Apache XALAN.
There is a webpage link to the XML/Xalan-C archives.

This file does not need to be copied to (dist)/xalan/

2.  (dist)/xml/xalan-c/KEYS       -> (dist)/xalan/xalan-c/KEYS

This file contains the PGP keys to validate our distributions.
It should be copied if the current subdirectories are copied.

3.  Directories of distribution artifacts
    (dist)/xml/xalan-c/binaries/  -> (dist)/xalan/xalan-c/binaries/
    (dist)/xml/xalan-c/docs/      -> (dist)/xalan/xalan-c/docs/
    (dist)/xml/xalan-c/source/    -> (dist)/xalan/xalan-c/source/

These directories of distribution artifacts are ready to move.

Do Not Copy or Move the Unix pointers in (dist)/xml/xalan-c/

4.  (dist)/xml/xalan-j/KEYS       -> (dist)/xalan/xalan-j/KEYS

This file contains the PGP keys to validate our distributions.
It shoud be copied if the current subdirectories are copied.

5.  Directories of distribution artifacts
    (dist)/xml/xalan-j/binaries/  -> (dist)/xalan/xalan-j/binaries/
    (dist)/xml/xalan-j/source/    -> (dist)/xalan/xalan-j/source/

These directories of distribution artifacts are ready to move.

Do Not Copy or Move the Unix pointers in the (dist)/xml/xalan-j/

-------

The current Xalan project website links are now configured to
retrieve the distribution artifacts from the (archive-dist).
The links we have to (dist)/xml/xalan-c have now been assigned
to the (archive-dist). The links we have to (dist)/xml/xalan-j
have now been assigned to the (achive-dist).

I will go ahead and publish our Xalan website pages with the
new links as described.

After the move above has been made, I can make the necessary
edits for current versions of Xalan projects to reference the
(dist)/xalan/* (mirror) sites.

Completion of these tasks should allow the Apache XML to be
retired without any affect on the Xalan projects. We will still
need (archive-dist)/xml/* to remain intact.

Sincerely,
Steven J. Hathaway
Xalan Documentation Project

[jira] [Commented] (INFRA-5275) Move (dist)/xml/xalan* - Prepare Project XML Retire

Posted by "Steven J. Hathaway (JIRA)" <ji...@apache.org>.
    [ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/INFRA-5275?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=13461295#comment-13461295 ]

Steven J. Hathaway commented on INFRA-5275:
-------------------------------------------

Henk,

The (mirror) network for (dist)/xml/ is no longer used by the XALAN
projects and can be retired.

You can cleanup and retire the following (dist)/xml/ products.

1.  (dist)/xml/xalan-c/
2.  (dist)/xml/xalan-j/
3.  (dist)/xml/xerces-c/
4.  (dist)/xml/xerces-j/

The Apache Archives are still referenced for old product releases.
These Apache Archive distributions should still remain available.

1.  (dist-archive)/xml/xalan-c/
2.  (dist-archive)/xml/xalan-j/
3.  (dist-archive)/xml/xerces-c/
4.  (dist-archive)/xml/xerces-j/

The companion Apache XERCES projects should no longer depend on
on the (mirror) network for (dist)/xml/. The XERCES project has
also acquired the Apache XML/Commons. The XML/fop is now
XMLGRAPHICS/fop.

The Apache XALAN projects no longer reference the Apache XML
website. In our opinion, the "http://xml.apache.org" website can
also be retired. The necessary old content has already been
rehosted. Our XALAN project websites no longer need links to
the XML project website.

Sincerely,
Steven J. Hathaway <shathaway>

Henk Penning commented on INFRA-5275:
-------------------------------------

Hi,

I cleaned up :
1. (dist)/xml/xalan-c/
2. (dist)/xml/xalan-j/

Note: your xalan-j download page
http://xalan.apache.org/xalan-j/downloads.html
refers to
http://www.apache.org/dyn/closer.cgi/xalan/xalan-j
which (on the mirrors) points to something that
does not exist, because you didn't copy dist/xml/xalan-[cj]/
to dist/xalan/ as suggested. Nevermind.

I don't see dist/xml/fop ; so I'll ignore that.

Thanks for the fixes ; I think this ticket can now be closed.
