Had the same problem with v2.0.49. It seems to be caused by long periods of
inactivity - the connections to the LDAP server time out, and are never reconnected.

Have just tested the latest auth_ldap module for CVS HEAD, and the problem seems
to have gone away. Please could you test and confirm if it works for you?

The easiest way to test this is to drop in the *ldap*.c files from CVS head (or
latest snapshot) into the modules/experimental directory, and try it out with
v2.0.49.
