Lee, first of all, and on behalf of the ApacheFlex team, thanks in advance for the effort you are putting in this.

Here are some remarks that will help the integration of your patch:
1) Almost all mobile-specific skins are in AS (there are only 2 exceptions). This requirement is even more true for DDL, which is supposed to be short-lived, so creation/addition/ to the stage and removal must be as fast as possible.

2) On iOS,  DDL "Drop List" is usually embedded inside a Callout, so it would be nice if your skin followed this usage.
I think that on Android, a regular drop menu will be fine.
