[jira] [Commented] (CASSANDRA-16806) Allow TRUNCATE to work on Virtual Tables if the implementation allows it

    [ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/CASSANDRA-16806?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=17387272#comment-17387272 ]

Benjamin Lerer commented on CASSANDRA-16806:
--------------------------------------------

{quote}This ticket aims to support a wider range of features via virtual tables. Particularly, it was created as the first step to support auth caches viewing/invalidation through VTs. However, in order to fully mimic nodetool functionality for caches invalidation (CASSANDRA-16404), we need to support not only TRUNCATE, but also DELETE operation. Is DELETE support also included into the scope of this ticket? I guess you're planning to have a set of small-enough ticket to get the work done in small chunks.{quote}

{{DELETE}} operations are included in the {{PartitionUpdate}} that the {{VirtualTable.apply}} method will receive so we do not need to change anything at the statement level or in the interface.

> {{TRUNCATE}} statements are currently not supported by Virtual Tables. For some Virtual Tables it makes sense to allow it.
> It can be done by adding a {{truncate}} method to the {{VirtualTable}} interface and calling that method from {{TruncateStatement}}. The default implementation of the method should be to fire an {{InvalidRequestException}} saying that truncate is not supported on that specific table.
