[VOTE] creation of commons-users mailing list
i think that the time has come to create a commons-user mailing list. the
traffic on this list is now pretty high and there isn't any particular
component to blame ;)
most of the traffic is about development and we're asking a lot of users
to subscribe to this volume of mail just to get an answer to their
question.
to get the ball rolling, here's my +1.

This will be good for user support requests, It is very diffcult to find
something useful
for users in this list at this time, [commit],[vote], ... .

If the topic of conversion deals with the development of a commons
component, it goes on the -dev list. If it deals with the use of a
component, it goes on the -user list. Interaction between commons and
non-commons contributers should occur on which list is appropriate for
the topic of conversation. Note that I said "should". I anticipate
there will still be user-type questions from non-commons jakarta
committers on the -dev list.

What is the definition of "user" in regards to commons? A lot of users
are in fact contributors to other parts of Jakarta. Is the interaction
between the commons and non-commons Jakarta contributors supposed to go
on commons-user or commons-dev?

I'd hope that whoever creates it would automatically sign up all the
developers. :) Not as if anyone would be getting more email or anything.

We scare users away with this list ;). I was about to type No Traffic,
since there is no traffic yet, but yeah.. it is more likely to end up as
medium than as low traffic.. Let's wait for a couple of weeks and we can

cool. Should the commons-user list be considered "medium" traffic? I'm
sure it might get to that point eventually, but I wouldn't consider the
user traffic that has existed on commons-dev to be medium. Most of the
traffic here on commons-dev is real -dev traffic. The amount of
"user" messages just doesn't seem to be "medium" to me.

you would need karma on jakarta-site2, which it looks like you don't
have. I don't have it either though.

[Perl] combines all the worst aspects of C and Lisp: a billion of different
sublanguages in one monolithic executable. It combines the power of C with
the readability of PostScript. [Jamie Zawinski - DNA Lounge - San Francisco]

Apmail,
Admittedly, it has been less than 24 hours since the vote was called
for, but we have 13 +1s and no -1s for creating a commons-user mailing
list. Can we get the mailing list setup please?
I don't want to assume that those moderating commons-dev want to
moderate commons-user as well, so I will volunteer to moderate.
Those voting so far:
robert burrell donkin <rdonkin>
bob mcwhirter <werken>
Henri Yandell <bayard>
Stephen Colebourne <scolebourne>
Michael Smith <mas>
John Keyes <jkeyes>
Dmitri Plotnikov <dmitri>
Juozas Baliuka <baliuka>
Sean C. Sullivan <sullis>
Jason van Zyl <jvanzyl>
Dirk Verbeeck <dirkv>
Martin van den Bemt <mvdb>
Remy Maucherat <remm>
thanks,
michael
