mod_jserv.so precompiled binary does not work?
Hi;
I have Apache 1.3.9 and Tomcat 3.0 installed and working seperately on
a Sun Ultra 5 running Solaris 7. What I would like to do is install the
mod_jserv.so module for tighter integration between my web server and
app server.
My problem;
According to the Apache+Tomcat Howto, I am supposed to download the
mod_jserv.so file from
http://jakarta.apache.org/builds/tomcat/release/v3.0/solaris/sparc/ .
When I do download this module, and add the line
Include /usr/local/tomcat/etc/tomcat.conf
to my httpd.conf file, I get the following error when I try to start
apache:
Syntax error on line 13 of /usr/local/tomcat/etc/tomcat.conf:
Can't locate API module structure `jserv_module' in
file /usr/local/apache/libexec/mod_jserv.so: ld.so.1:
/usr/local/apache/bin/httpd: fatal: jserv_module: can't
find symbol
/etc/init.d/apachectl start: httpd could not be started
the mod_jserv.so file is indeed in /usr/local/apache/libexec
-rwxr-xr-x 1 www www 155260 Dec 30 12:57 mod_jserv.so
is there a way to build the mod_jserv.so module by hand via apxs
easily?
TIA
Chris

OK. Here's the scoop;
When downloading the mod_jserv.so file using a Netscape browser, the
file gets corrupted. Downloading the mod_jserv.so file with IE does nto
have the same problem.
Since I need to vent a bit : could someone please gzip the unix
binaries so as to avoid this from happening to some other poor soul?

First, make sure you are using the solaris binary and not the linux binary.
Also, to what directory did you copy the file. Look at your tomcat configuration (tomcat.conf) and
change the "LoadModule" line to use the correct module directory.
ex.
LoadModule jserv_module modules/mod_jserv.so
unless you have a directory libexec with mod_jesrv.so in it within your apache directory, the default
tomcat conf file may not work.
I am running Linux (Redhat 6.0) with the default apache installation and my apache directory is
/etc/httpd
the modules live in /usr/lib/apache and there is a link in /etc/httpd called modules which points to
/usr/lib/apache.
