[users@httpd] problems setting up user authentication

I am having problems setting up user authentication on my apache 2.0.46 server.
I go through the motions of:

	1. setting up the alias, in this case UNIX
	2. creating the directory using the location directives  - /var/www/UNIX
	3. setting up the password file via the htpasswd utility.

After I restart apache, I try to access the share, but no matter what I do,
access is denied. the httpd.conf file
is included in this email. what am i missing? thanks. <<httpd.conf>>
