[jira] Created: (INFRA-1165) emails sent across the
slide-dev@jakarta.apache.org are filtered as spam by my email provider
emails sent across the slide-dev@jakarta.apache.org are filtered as spam by my email provider
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Key: INFRA-1165
URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/INFRA-1165
Project: Infrastructure
Issue Type: Bug
Security Level: public (Regular issues)
Components: Mailing Lists
Environment: gmx as email provider
Reporter: Antoine Levy-Lambert
emails sent across the slide-dev@jakarta.apache.org are filtered as spam by my email provider.
The reason is the following "This email was not sent by the real mail gateway of the sender".
I do not have this problem with other lists to which I am subscribed, never are the mails of for instance dev@ant.apache.org or general@incubator.apache.org ... classified as SPAM.
Maybe you need to check the configuration of slide-dev in ezmlm.
Regards,
Antoine

We publish spf records for our mailing lists,
which are the only things which govern
a sender's outgoing mail server. I've checked
that the records we publish for jakarta
are identical to those of ant and incubator.
When I test hermes and slide-dev@jakarta
using http://www.dnsstuff.com/pages/spf.htm,
it passes, so the problem doesn't appear to
be on our end.
Also, while I don't believe this is relevant in this case,
if you've used different email addresses
to subscribe to the lists, and one of those
is a forwarding address, you can run afoul
of our spf records if the forwarder isn't spf-aware.

Hello Joe,
thanks for your answer.
Actually, I was subscribed under two email addresses to slide-dev. The second was a forwarding address (antoine at apache dot org). Messages sent via apache dot org were classified as spam because of "email not sent by the real email gateway of the sender".

Resolution: Fixed
Ok. We're running qmail on people.apache.org,
so one way to work around the spf issues
is to run the following command on people.apache.org
$ touch ~/.qmail-owner
That will allow your forwarder on people.apache.org
to be spf-compatible.
