   My (personal, not related to any affiliations) take is subdags are not deprecated as in defined in software lingo, but deprecated in the sense that we strongly discourage people to use it (the dictionary definition). I’d also say a fix to it would be very much welcomed, but don’t expect anyone else to actively spend time on investigating the cause the solution for you.
