I guess we can just link to an SVN version of release notes using a release tag link...

An alternative would be to link to the news announcement for each release.
This would only go so far back, though.

As for trunk / tag release notes, I guess I don't feel strongly one way or
another. The only problem being that the unreleased version is the topmost,
which could be confusing. This also wouldn't work well for the 1.2/2.0
branches, since the trunk release notes really only include 3.0 items.

I think what would be best would be if we had a way to generate them right
out of JIRA. I looked at doing this last summer, IIRC, and it wasn't going
to be easy to retroactively do it. I think I would have had to reopen all
issues and then reclose them. If we were to get all this going properly
though, it would also help with roadmapping. It just seemed harder than it
should be though *shrug*

I'm OK with either way, I just figured having one would simplify maintenance.

I still suggest pointing to the tag links and matching them with the
releases. This would allow us to support branches and generally reduce
confusion.

We only need to have the release notes once on the page, I think. That way people can see the history in one file.

[jira] Commented: (CAY-1041) Add release notes to downloads page.

Ari Maniatis commented on CAY-1041:
-----------------------------------

Just so we had *something* I added the link to the download page under the nightly builds where it makes sense. Sure we could have automated extracts from Jira in theory, but in practice I've not be able to get it to work with our Confluence export plugin. And we don't have release notes in each branch that I can see.
