[VOTE] Apache TIka 1.4 Release Candidate #1

Hi Guys,

A candidate for the Tika 1.4 release is available at:

    http://people.apache.org/~mattmann/apache-tika-1.4/rc1/

The release candidate is a zip archive of the sources in:

http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/tika/tags/1.4/

The SHA1 checksum of the archive is
1e523c6ed06b4d095d7f6e93a04a8d2ab43c7226.

A staged M2 repository can also be found on repository.apache.org here:

https://repository.apache.org/content/repositories/orgapachetika-020/

Please vote on releasing this package as Apache Tika 1.4.
The vote is open for the next 72 hours and passes if a majority of at
least three +1 Tika PMC votes are cast.

[ ] +1 Release this package as Apache Tika 1.4
[ ] -1 Do not release this package because...

Here is my +1 for the release.

Cheers,
Chris

Hi Chris,

I think, I've subscribed using apache.org. Big G changed UI layout, & don't
know how to change default (gmail).
My comments were about dependencies updates, I created excel file with list
of all jars. The second one was code coverage report. If I cannot solve it,
tomorrow will send in separated thread/mail.

sorry for being late on this.

No, I don't need this code absolutely in the 1.4 release. I just was a
bit worried about cutting a release with a known bug. I am not sure how
often this problem will actually occur in practice.

There is a minor issue with TIKA-991: The original patch had been
applied, but in the meantime I discovered that the code could enter an
infinite loop under certain circumstances. Therefore, I provided a
second patch (the small attachment from Feb 15th). Could this patch be
applied, too, before the release?

In favor,

[x] +1 Release this package as Apache Tika 1.4.

Tested on Linux ubuntu 3.8.0-23-generic x64.

May be we have to update some dependencies.
Also ran a code coverage using mvn plugin, cobertura.

BR,
Oleg

Hey Uwe, seems to work on both latest 3.0.3 and 2.2.1 for me.

mvn test -DargLine="...."

At least when I pass bullshit it complains when running tests that the forked JVM dies and the JVM's stderr confirms this.

I will give it a try later this evening (German time). I will setup a random JDK build with JDK 6+ (tests JDK 6, 7 and on Linux also JDK 8b93, IBM J9 6, IBM J9 7 and Oracle JRockit 6). The garbage collector and -server / -client and bitness and oops compression applied is also random :-) See the talk in my previous post.

This would be the first test of a maven-based build to use this customized Jenkins infrastructure.

Hmmm, I think command line options for Maven work the same way as in
Lucene (e.g., -Dargs).

Give it a shot and let me know how it works :)

Hi Mike,

Do you have coordinates of SVN to checkout and which Maven Command to run (for randomized JDK I need a free-style build, so I need the correct Maven command line+ goals to test everything). How to pass JDK command line options to Maven's Surefire (like -Xfoobar -XX+UseG1GC... - in Lucene it's -Dargs="...", what is the maven equivalent to drive the Surefire Child JVM)?

Just checked again, it all passes now.

Re Jenkins, there is a Windows build slave. Our build is currently setup
to run on only the Ubuntu slave, could update config so it is able to run
on Windows slave as well so it will pick which one is available when
running, or configure up a new separate Windows build configuration.
Thinking the latter is best as it guarantees a test, so will set this up
tonight, but if others know better just shout before hand.

Argh, this is my bad (yes, it's TIKA-1128). It's very likely an EOL issue.

Separately, is our Jenkins instance able to run builds on Windows
hosts? It'd be nice to catch issues like this before release time.

I'll change the test to collapse whitespace variants before the assert.

In favor,

[x] +1 Release this package as Apache Tika 1.4.

Tested on Linux ubuntu 3.8.0-23-generic x64.

May be we have to update some dependencies.
Also ran a code coverage using mvn plugin, cobertura.

Oleg
