[jira] [Commented] (RATIS-437) Design a long running, distributed test

Clay B. commented on RATIS-437:

Hi [~vrodionov], I do not know how much work you have into this but if it is not much yet, may I propose a solution?

I have a VM based approach using the [Namazu|https://github.com/osrg/namazu] framework for injecting some faults and using [Vagrant|https://vagrantup.com] to orchestrate the environments.

I do not however see a good load generation process in the Ratis codebase right now for the Vagrant based approach to leverage but I think [~msingh] has some ideas on how the ratis-examples filestore could be used to allow for pumping a lot of data through Ratis easily.

My thoughts can be seen in [https://github.com/cbaenziger/incubator-ratis/tree/RATIS-437/dev-support/vagrant].

> We should come up with a "standard" test for the LogService. Some desirable features:
> * Capable of scaling out to many nodes (clients and servers)
> * Validation of data written
> * Can report performance
> * Can inject "chaos"
> * Execution platforms (how will folks run this test -- will it require any specific tools or other packages?)
> We should come up with a high-level design for how we want to build such a test for the LogService, and figure out what to implement first (obviously, building some inject-able chaos would be premature at this point).
