Why does Slide traverse each part of the path?

Folks!

I was wondering when I access something like
/files/myfolder/foler2/myfile.doc why does this cause store requests to
/files/, /files/myfolder and /files/myfolder/foler2/ instread of only to
myfile.doc. I know the simple answer is Slide works this way and relies
on that. However, what was the original idea? Was it to set implicite
locks to the parent folders? Or only to check for inherited rights and
locks? Or something else?

Oliver
