logo contest closed

I think the deadline for the logo submissions has passed - what will we do
with anything that still comes in? Maybe remove the instructions from the
site and make a final decision on the voting procedure, put out a call for
a community wide vote and where the PPMC members get involved.

Sorry, I mean can we see the id's? Like 1 - Erik, 2 - Samuel etc.

Well they already have ids in the preview link. If you mean that same
id next to the name I guess that would be a good idea out of clarity
sake.

I'll do that right now.

Mike,

Is it possible to give each an id?

Michael, would you volunteer to take the lead and drive this voting process?

The decisions about who can vote and how belong to this PPMC - as
usual suggestions are welcome but someone has to make the choices.

There is already an official list [1], on the websites logo page. The
logos are already have ids.

I like the idea. It also removes the possible emotions from the choice. We
aren't saying +1/-1 to a person, just to a logo. We still like the
person... sometimes :)

One additional thought... what about removing the authors names and even
randomizing the list of entries now that the contest is closed? This has
two effects:

1. People aren't swayed by who created the logo (as much). People certainly
wouldn't be swayed by seeing votes come in for a certain person's logo. All
you'd see are votes for entry numbers.

2. People are forced to look at every logo again. Since the rules of
submission were that you were supposed to submit and then update the same
preview URL with any updates, there may have been updates to various logos.
Lazy voters might look at a submission entry in the list and already know
how they are going to vote, but the logo might have been changed since they
originally looked at it. If we anonymize and randomize the entries then we
force people to look at each one during the voting process. It will take
longer, since voters can't just skip over ones they know they don't like,
but given the fact that logos can change since they were submitted I think
that might be more a pro than a con.

Peter, this is where it got muddy. I don't really want or need to get
involved in this mess. I given my all up to this point to have a nice
and clean work area(IE logo entries), I really think it's time that I
respectfully pass the baton. :)

I have no experience with what you are talking about.

I think it might have been discussed but trying to make our life easier -
its possible to set up a Google form linked to a read-only Google
spreadsheet and have submissions through the form automatically mailed to
the list.

I'd say absolutely non-anonymous - if it doesn't happen on the mailinglist
it doesn't happen :)

Please lets keep votes to a single thread.

I suggest we follow Marcus' idea. Let's wait for a 'start voting email' and then just reply to it.

If Michael volunteers to take the lead, then let him round up the procedure in the start voting mail.

Everybody, who subscribed to this mailing list should be able to vote (not only the registered committers - maybe announce the voting procedure via this mailing list).

Maybe we send a "start voting mail" and they only have to reply this mail.

As I suggested in my "[Logo] Voting" mail:

Hi,

A few suggestions:

- let's make an official list with all the logos and their creators. This could be as simple as an html page. We could then 'id' them, so reference is clear.
- the community should be well informed where to view this final list
- is there a voting system available?
- who can vote? Are non community members allowed to vote? This might trigger family, and family of family members voting... we should avoid that
