Tomcat & custom java compiler

Hi everybody!

Will there be a possibility in Tomcat to use an independent java compiler?
Now it only works with JDK, but javac cannot be freely distributed. For
instance, GNUJSP provides such mechanism in an elegant manner - by
specifying a command line of the desired java compiler.

regards,
Primoz

You can find these lines in the original config files from
Tomcat 3.1:
$TOMCAT_HOME/conf/web.xml:

<!-- uncomment the following to use Jikes for JSP compilation
        <init-param>
            <param-name>jspCompilerPlugin</param-name>

<param-value>org.apache.jasper.compiler.JikesJavaCompiler</param-value>
        </init-param>
-->

Actually, you can use the jdk, the jre, or jikes. See web.xml for
instructions on how to enable the jikes compiler.

<init-param>
	<param-name>jspCompilerPlugin</param-nam>

<param-value>org.apache.jasper.compiler.JikesJavaCompiler</param-value>
</init-param>
