Can a WAR file be deployed on tomcat?

Hi,
      I'm trying to deploy a .war file on tomcat v3.0. I modified server.xml and put the isWARExpanded attrib to false in the Context tag. It didn't work.Any other things i should be changing/adding to make it work or .war files aren't yet supported?
      Also, is there any documentation for the API of tomcat(other than doc in the source).
