Summary: SocketAppender.append(LoggingEvent) calls the
ErrorHandler without the LoggingEvent as parameter
Product: Log4j
Version: 1.2
Platform: Other
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: Appender
AssignedTo: log4j-dev@logging.apache.org
ReportedBy: rosendorf@gmx.de
In the Method SocketAppender.append(LoggingEvent) the errorHandler is called
without the LoggingEvent.
In the case of an error, the LoggingEvent is lost.
There are two places to fix the problem:
- errorHandler.error("No remote host is set for SocketAppender named \""+
this.name+"\".", null, ErrorCode.GENERIC_FAILURE, event);
- errorHandler.error("Detected problem with connection, not reconnecting.", e,
ErrorCode.GENERIC_FAILURE, event);

------- Additional Comments From carnold@apache.org 2007-10-22 16:26 -------
This is a tough one as changing the method called on error changes the behavior. It would seem to be
innocuous, but could break an app that didn't expect the change. The signature with the LoggingEvent
parameter should have been introduced on a new interface instead of added to an existing interface, but
that was long ago.
