[Bug 57895] New: missing m4a mimeType in mime.types
https://bz.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=57895
Bug ID: 57895
Summary: missing m4a mimeType in mime.types
Product: Apache httpd-2
Version: 2.5-HEAD
Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: NEW
Severity: minor
Priority: P2
Component: Documentation
Assignee: docs@httpd.apache.org
Reporter: dylan.millikin@gmail.com
There should be a audio/mp4 mimeType for files of type .m4a
m4a files are essentially mpeg-4 and browsers expect these files to be
associated with the audio/mp4 mimetype (and not some other variation). IE9 will
even refuse to play m4a files if they don't have that mime type.
Seeing as a lot of systems use this file and given how popular HTML5 players
are becoming it would be great to get this easy fix in quickly.

There seems to be no work left, closing the bug as fixed. Please re-open it if
something is missing!

Thanks Eric,
Can you provide me with a link of the mentioned list? I can find mimetypes
(http://www.iana.org/assignments/media-types/media-types.xhtml) but nothing
about associated extensions. Or are we to base ourselves on the "registered"
extensions provided with the associated RFCs (even though the file description
is match)?
Thanks in advance.

No entry on IANA list, our convention for new entries is that they should show
up there first.

Applied to trunk based on
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MPEG-4_Part_14#.MP4_versus_.M4A in r1723567.
Proposed for backport to 2.4 in r1723570 and 2.2 in r1723571.
Thanks for your contribution.

Your right, my previous update should be disregarded. Will have to come back
to this or wait for someone else to sort out what the bar is.
